Overview
A progressive web app for the UK metal detecting community. 155+ users, GIS-powered find logging, AI hunt intelligence, clubs, real-time chat, offline mode and push notifications — built from zero to live in under 6 months.
The problem
- 1Metal detectorists had no dedicated platform for logging finds with GPS accuracy, sharing permission land, or connecting with local clubs.
- 2Existing tools were generic or US-focused — nothing built for UK detecting law, heritage reporting, or the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
- 3No community platform existed that combined mapping, social features, and hunt planning in one place.
The solution
Built a full PWA with PostGIS-powered find logging, GIS overlays (Roman roads, Scheduled Monuments, ancient trackways), and permission boundary detection.
Added AI Hunt Intelligence that analyses terrain, historical data, and seasonal patterns to surface the best detecting opportunities.
Launched clubs, real-time chat, events calendar, rally guest mode via QR, and a session replay tool — all offline-capable.
